The Bay Area Glass Institute will be hosting an event celebrating Ethan Stern’s work. There will be a gallery reception with Stern’s artworks for sale with a brief artist talk, followed by a demonstration in the hotshop. All are welcome to attend this free community event at Bay Area Glass Institute.
Ethan Stern will be at BAGI teaching his class "From The Furnace to The Lathe". Focusing on blown forms in the hot shop, students will be challenged to break out of the round and think about the bubble in new ways. Aspects of coldworking will be covered with a focus on the processes of carving and deep cutting.
Stern was born in Ithaca, New York, Ethan Stern lives in Los Angeles, CA. He earned his BFA in Sculpture from Alfred University and is a practicing studio artist, designer, teacher. Ethan’s artwork is held in many public and private collections including the Corning Museum of Glass, Glasmuseet Ebeltoft, Tacoma Museum of Glass, Museum of American Glass, Imagine Museum, Fort Wayne Museum of Art, Lowe Museum of Art and the Toyama Glass Art Museum. He has taught sculpture at the University of Washington, Penland School of Craft, Urban Glass, Pittsburgh Glass Center, Corning Museum of Glass Studio and Pilchuck Glass School where he has been a Trustee since 2012.
