The Bay Area Glass Institute is honored to host the De la Torre Brothers, Einar and Jamex, for an Artist Talk and Demonstration on Friday, February 28th, at 7:00 pm in celebration of their class "Devitrified Concepts - Crystallized Narratives". Join us in the hotshop and experience the energetic and vibrant glassworking style of the De la Torre Brothers!
Einar and Jamex De la Torre have been collaborating in earnest since the 1990’s. Over the years they have developed their signature style, featuring mixed media work with blown glass sculpture and installation art. Their pieces represent a multifaceted view of life that reflects a complex and humorous aesthetic that could be seen as multi-layered baroque. Their approach is additive, constantly combining material and meaning.
They both attended California State University at Long Beach, Jamex got a BFA in Sculpture in 1983, while Einar decided against the utility of an art degree. Currently, the brothers live and work on both sides of the border, The Guadalupe Valley in Baja California, México, and San Diego, California. The complexities of the immigrant experience and contradicting bicultural identities, as well as their current life and practice on both sides of the border, inform their narrative and aesthetics.

How to choose: Glass Experience, or Studio Class?
-
If you’ve never interacted with art glass before and just want a casual introduction to the medium, you’ll want to book a Glass Experience. These are half-day sessions that are a lot of fun, whether solo or with a group.
These make for great team-building events, and we also have seasonal experiences where you can make pieces that are season or holiday-specific.
If you have a Groupon for BAGI, then the Glass Experience is for you—book here.
-
If you’re ready to dig deep and start on the right path to becoming a proficient glass artist, you’ll want to book a Studio Class.
