We are excited to welcome Penelope Rakov Lee back to the Bay Area Glass Institute to share her glassworking techniques in her class "Murrine Doesn't Have To Be So Scary",  a five-day hotshop intensive. On Friday, May 1st at 7:00 we will be celebrating Penelope's visit with a Community Night event featuring a live glassblowing demonstration and an artist talk from Rakov Lee about her journey in glass.

Penelope Rakov Lee is an internationally renowned glass artist, best known for her intricate murrine work. She has degrees from Alfred University and the Tyler School of Art, where she developed her love of glass layering, originally based on the Murano tradition know as murrine. She is known for her innovative techniques that create intricate patterns as well as for the jewelry and sculptures she makes with them. Penelope has taught classes and workshops in the US and abroad, including at the International Festival of Glass in Stourbridge, England; Pilchuck Glass School; The Studio at the Corning Museum of Glass, Tyler School of Art; and Salem County Community College.

Age Requirements

 

Studio Classes

All studio and visiting artist classes are available to adults ages 16 and up with variable prerequisites.

Glass Experiences:

Almost every class or experience is open to anyone ages 8 and up, except those in the Flameworking studio.

An adult must accompany children between the ages of 8 and 15. *Unless they attend one of our designated youth camps.  

Flameworking Studio: 

All experience classes and youth glass camps in the flameworking studio (soft & borosilicate) have a minimum age requirement of 12 years old.

Cancellation Policies

 

Studio Classes and Glass Experiences

To reschedule, please contact studio@bagi.org with all of the information used to book the class. Please allow up to 3 business days to process the request. 

  • Requests made with less than 7 days of notice will require a $15 rescheduling fee be paid before being rescheduled. 
  • Requests made with less than 4 days notice will be considered a cancellation. Please see below.

You can cancel an experience or class yourself here. Pull up the order, and hit "Request return"—our team will attend to you ASAP.

  • Cancellations made 5 days before the first day of a class will be issued a 100% refund.
  • Cancellations made 4 days before the first day of class will be issued a 50% refund.
  • No refunds will be given with less than three days (72 hours) notice.
  • No refunds for no-shows.
  • If BAGI were to cancel a class, a full refund for the class would be issued.

Practice Sessions

BAGI reserves the right to cancel practice sessions up to 24 hours prior to a session if only one person has enrolled (there is a two-person minimum). We apologize for any inconvenience.

Private Events/Team Building Events

  • Cancellations made up to 7 days prior to the event will receive a 100% refund.
  • Cancellations made up to 3–6 days prior to the event will be issued a 50% refund.
  • Rescheduling 3–6 days before your event will incur a $50 rebooking fee.
  • A rescheduled event will not be considered for a second rescheduling and will, therefore, be considered a cancellation. If this occurs, 100% of the deposit will be forfeited.
  • No refunds will be given with less than 3 days' (72 hours) notice of cancellation.
  • No refunds for no-shows.
  • If BAGI were to cancel an event, a full refund for the event would be issued.

Youth Glass Camps

Cancellations must be made 10 business days before the first day of camp to receive a refund. No refunds will be given with less than 10 days notice. If BAGI were to cancel a camp, a full refund would be issued.
