“Simple, Not Easy” aims to continue building a strong foundation of Introductory skills in order to understand glass as a material. It is understood by many that the process of making things out of glass is hard, but if we simplify the process and technique, things become more achievable. We are learning how to think about glass strategically in order to use the glass more efficiently. We will continue learning how to gather properly, and use venetian techniques to shape the glass into simple blown forms. We will use these techniques to work towards making tumblers using the “Pull Cup” method. The emphasis is not on the end product, but more so the process. Glassblowing is a team activity, all students will work with each other to achieve these goals. It is highly encouraged that students take notes during class.
