Starting with basic borosilicate flameworking techniques, this class will focus on building structures in solid glass. Working directly from scale drawings, students will learn to construct complex forms from small motifs. An introduction to moving parts will also be provided. Beginners are welcome.
Students can expect to learn the fundamentals of borosilicate flameworking as well as techniques more specific to this method of building. Bring grand ideas, a pencil, a drawing compass and expect to learn through demos, illustrated hand-outs, slide shows and hands on practice.

Structural Flameworking is a five-day intensive class. At BAGI this means five straight days of learning and creative exploration, Wednesday to Sunday, with optional studio time in the evenings of Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday to continue working on what you have been learning. This evening slot will be after class from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m.
Friday night is reserved for Community Night with Kit Paulson, where Julia will give a brief artist talk followed by a live flameworking demonstration. Students are encouraged to attend the Community Night event but attendance is entirely optional.
